One of the earliest signs of what would soon turn my life upside down was an ever-lingering sadness. Walks through rainy forests with my dog and sunny days at the beach, which once brought comfort and joy, suddenly left me feeling hollow. With each day, month and eventually year that passed, everyone and everything around me seemed to drift miles away, while I slowly withdrew from my own life.

In the first few months of therapy, my brain slowly began to unload some of the weight it had carried for years. Piece by piece, I began to put things together, making sense of everything that had accumulated over the years and brought me to the end of a long struggle to find answers, after so many attempts that had led nowhere.

As some of the mental burden began to lift, my perception of reality slowly returned, and with it came the unsettling realisation that I no longer recognised anything from the strange reality I had lived in for the past few months. I detested that person to the point where I could barely bear the thought of all that she had come to represent.
