About
I am Shirin, a writer, storyteller, and author, born and raised in Switzerland and based in Ireland since 2016. My experiences living in different countries and cultures shape my work, which explores themes of belonging, identity, and what it’s like to live in-between places.
Publications
In 2025, I published my first short story, Spiegelmelodie, exploring the nuances of inhabiting multiple cultural and emotional landscapes. My writing has also appeared in travel magazines, shaped by journeys to less-traveled places, and now I primarily share my work through my German-language Substack, nebenhernotiert. I am currently working on my first novel, learning to trust a slower rhythm and the long arc of a story.
A Lifelong Writing Practice
Writing has been with me for as long as I can remember. It started with a diary and fairytales. As I grew older, writing stayed close and became a steady way of thinking and feeling my way through the world.
I trained as a Poetry and Bibliotherapist, researching the relationship between reading, writing, and mental wellbeing. Through my training , my relationship with writing deepened and shifted. That was where I fell in love with poetry.
At the heart of all my work is a belief in writing as a companion: something that can hold complexity, invite curiosity, and make space for connection, with ourselves and with others
